CFHY 13.1 Weekly Update!

A big congrats to everyone who participated in the first workout of the CrossFit Open.  It was 17 minutes of pure burpee and snatch fun, I think we can all agree on that.  Another thing I hope we can all agree on is how impressive and inspiring it was to see so many of our athletes push their limits and go outside of their comfort zone.  As a coach I had so much fun on Friday watching people get into the competitive spirit and lay it all out on the line.  I can’t wait to see what the next four weeks bring!  If you haven’t already been “leaderboarding” on the Games site, dig in people!  See where you are, where your friends are, and where the best of the best are- it’s all inspiring and great to be part of.

CFHY Gettin’ After 13.1

As promised, for those officially registered we will be doing prizes for our top athletes each week, along with a special “Spirit of the Open” prize for a CrossFit Hyannis athlete who stood out in some way- either an inspiring performance, pushing themselves beyond their comfort zone, exceeding expectations, displaying an understanding of the Spirit of the Games, etc.  Being a great CrossFit athlete is not just about being at the top of the leaderboard!

Our top female athlete this week, with a score of 145 reps, was Bridget Armstrong.  Our top male athlete, with a score of 147 reps, was Alex Rovzar.  Congrats to both of these guys for their amazing performances!

This week our Spirit of the Open award goes to Christy Avila Douglas for her willingness to dive into the Open and her tenacity with the 75lb snatch!  Christy has only been at CrossFit Hyannis a relatively short time, but has already seen great improvement through her hard work and commitment.  She took a leap of faith signing up for the Open, and in the first week has already proven that she is a true competitor.    She finished WOD 13.1 with a score of 103, meaning she completed 70 burpees and 33 snatches- including three at 75lb, setting a new PR for herself.  She showed that she has no fear of burpees or barbells and got it done!  Congrats Christy for a great first week in the Open.

Christy secretly loves burpees.

Again, thank you to all those who participated- we had some truly amazing performances.  The next workout will be announced this Wednesday evening at 8:00 on the CrossFit Games site and we will once be doing it competition style on Friday.  Can’t wait to see what comes out of the hopper and how everyone rises to the occasion!
