CFHY June Athlete of the Month: Lisa Potter

The CrossFit Hyannis Athlete of the Month for June is Lisa Potter! Lisa is one of our strongest and most dedicated athletes, and puts forth full effort every time she’s at the gym. She’s one of those people whose presence brings intensity to the gym and she infuses those around her with her energy and strength.

One of the most admirable qualities about Lisa is that she isn’t afraid to push herself when appropriate and she never backs away from a challenge. No matter the workout, she always does every movement that she can prescribed even if there are some movements in the workout she can’t do RX. Sometimes people take an “all or nothing” approach and figure if they have to scale one thing they may as well scale it all- whereas Lisa knows that she is at the gym to give her full effort and she never holds back. When it comes to a barbell Lisa lifts monstrous weights with seeming ease, and the amazing/scary/exciting thing is that she is only just beginning to scrape the surface of her abilities.

Even though the barbell may come a little easier for Lisa, that doesn’t mean that she does not embrace the more “gymnasty” side of CrossFit. You can regularly find her working on toes to bar, kipping, and double unders. There’s a dichotomous struggle and beauty in CrossFit when we attack our weaknesses. Though we may not realize it through the struggle and seeming failures we encounter while working on our weaknesses, the joy that comes when we finally achieve what we set out to is all the more sweet knowing the journey we took to get there. Lisa is a wonderful example of an athlete who embraces the process, diligently putting in the time as she works toward her goals.

Lisa has come a long way since she first began training at CrossFit Hyannis, and there’s no doubt that she will continue to improve and get stronger and fitter. We are lucky to have her at CrossFit Hyannis!
