November Athlete of the Month- Pablo!!!

The CrossFit Hyannis Athlete of the Month for November is Pablo Martinez.  Pablo has been a dedicated member of the CrossFit Hyannis community since we opened nearly three years ago, and has done more for this gym in the last three years than many realize.  In addition to being integral in our building expansion, he also regularly assists with things around the gym- from nailing boxes to installing pull ups rigs to tidying up kettlebells and so much more.

Pablo inspires people each day with this tenacity, strength, determination, and effort.  When people look at the board each day, Pablo’s is always a name that their eyes wander too- although oftentimes people just leave him out when comparing their score to others (“Well that’s Pablo, he doesn’t count- he’s superhuman.”)  Pound for pound Pablo is one of the strongest, if not the strongest, athlete in the gym.  He regularly puts up weight and does WODs with loads well over his bodyweight.  He never takes the easy way out and isn’t afraid of the struggle.  Many people say they want to get strong, but few are willing to go to that place of discomfort and push through their perceived weaknesses to get there.  Not only does Pablo not fear weights- he embraces the challenge, both physical and mental, that comes from attacking a heavy barbell.

In addition to not fearing the barbell, Pablo is a bodyweight ninja- making movements like pull-ups, handstand pushups, and double unders look like child’s play.  What many people don’t realize, however, is that even though these things seemingly look like they come effortlessly to Pablo- he puts in often unseen effort and time in getting better at them- whether it be staying after class to work on pull-ups, continuing to work on double unders, or countless other habits that Pablo has that help him be so successful.

I feel so lucky to have Pablo as part of the CrossFit Hyannis family.  I know that in addition to being an amazing and inspiring athlete, Pablo is always there to help the community in any way possible.  We could not be more grateful to Pablo for the role he plays at CrossFit Hyannis- thank you Pablo!
