The Pursuit: Attack Your Weaknesses

“The Pursuit” is an opportunity to work one on one with a coach to address specific weaknesses, set goals (and be accountable for them), receive video analysis and feedback, and receive a custom program of supplementary work meant to target your specific weaknesses and areas you would like to further develop beyond the scope of within the normal class setting.

The goal of classic CrossFit style programming is to enhance your GPP (general physical preparedness) and that is the primary function of what happens in a CrossFit class.  Certainly skills are acquired, work capacity is increased, and strength is improved by participating in CrossFit classes alone (assuming you are at a good CrossFit gym).  The reality is, however, that if you really want to attack your weaknesses you need to spend more time drilling and practicing them.

“The Pursuit” is meant to accompany the regular programming at your gym, and is only to be done if you are taking care of your recovery and prioritizing your nutrition.  Adding volume and accessory work without appropriately taking care of yourself is a recipe for disaster.  It is important to listen to your body and know your own limits.

“The Pursuit” work can be done before or after class, or in a separate session.  You can include it in your warm up or cool down, or at a time that works for you.  It is not meant to “beat you up” or take too long- it is meant as a way to directly and consistently attack your weakness.

Who is “The Pursuit” for?

Anyone who wants to attack their weaknesses head on.  This can be someone brand new to CrossFit, those looking to compete, and everyone in between.  Anyone who is looking to improve in one specific area or movement.  Can’t figure out how to kip toes to bar?  Want to get your first pull-up or muscle up?  Struggling with cleans or snatches? Are you willing to put in the extra deliberate practice to get there?  This is for you.

What is included when I sign up for a “The Pursuit” session?

  • One 30-minute session (in person or via Skype) to discuss your goals, break down your movements, and get started on creating a plan to achieve your goal.
  • An initial 1-3 video analysis and breakdowns of you working on the movement you are trying to improve.
  • One month of accessory work to assist you in making progress toward your goal (2-3 sessions per week). “The Pursuit” users will be given a FitBot account in which their accessory workouts will be assigned and tracked.
  • An additional 1-3 video analysis of your progress (must be done within 4 weeks of initial session).
  • An additional sense of direction and accountability in working on your weaknesses.

How does this vary from regular classes?  How much does it cost?

  • Although coaches do their best to assist you as much as possible within the framework of class, this is an opportunity to get some extra guidance and coaching on a particular skill or weakness and dive deeper into helping you acquire the skills you desire by giving you the tools you need to get there.
  • The cost for a 30-minute initial session, up to 6 video analysis, accessory work for a month, and check-ins over the course of one month is $75.
