Want Weightlifting Advice? Ask Erin and Carlos!

If you’ve ever seen true Olympic weightlifters lift it is absolutely amazing and inspiring.  The first true Olympic weightlifter I saw lift was Erin Andica (then Wallace) who was in Rapid City, South Dakota the same time I was training at Black Hills CrossFit.  As I was just learning how to snatch and clean and jerk she was throwing around weights significantly heavier than any of the men there.  She was always willing to offer advice and support of us CrossFitters as we were learning the lifts and is a great teacher.  I recently asked Erin if she would be willing to answer any questions that any of our members had on weightlifting (snatch and clean and jerk) and she graciously agreed.

Erin is a weightlifter for Team USA, has won national championships and has a host of incredible accomplishments as an athlete.  She is married to Carlos Andica, who is a Colombian weightlifter who competed in both the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

If you have a question specific to weightlifting that you’d like to ask Erin and Carlos let me know, and we’ll get their advice.  It can be anything- from specifics of the lift, to mindset, etc.  This is a great chance to get some advice from some of the best in the world!

Check out some of their lifts below and on Instagram at @carlosandica and @edubz_86

Erin with a 92kg snatch (that would be 202 pounds)

Erin with three reps of clean at 100kg (220 pounds)

Carlos with a 180kg Clean and Jerk (that would be 396 pounds…)
